Hi, I’m Julie Kelleher, and I’m a full-time mom with a full-time job who’s learned that “having it all together” is basically a myth we tell ourselves while frantically searching for matching socks at 7:30 AM.

The Moment Everything Changed

Picture this: It’s a Tuesday morning, and my 2nd grader casually mentions she forgot about her reading test while we walk out the door on the way to school. Old me would have launched into panic and self-judgment mode—scouring her backpack for reading worksheets that we missed, wondering why I can’t seem to stay on top of school work this year (or ever), and when realizing nothing can be done in 10 minutes before the bell rings, sending her off feeling unprepared while I carried the mom-guilt all day.

Instead, I pulled out my phone, opened ChatGPT, and asked for help creating grade-appropriate sight word stories for VCe words (you know, those vowel-consonant-e combinations like “face,” “bite,” and “cute” that somehow escaped my memory from my own elementary days).

Within seconds, I had two short stories perfect for her reading level, activities we could do in the car, and a mini study guide that turned our drive to school into a confidence-boosting practice session. She walked into that building feeling ready instead of rattled.

That’s when it hit me: AI isn’t about replacing the human connection in parenting—it’s about creating more space for it.
