Building AI-Ready Communities: A Partnership for Family AI Literacy in Alexandria

Mission

Empowering parents and families with foundational AI awareness, knowledge, resources, and skills to navigate AI with clarity and confidence.

Empowering parents in the age of AI to guide their families, and themselves, with clarity and confidence.

The Challenge We're Addressing

Families today face a critical knowledge gap when it comes to artificial intelligence. Without access to clear, practical guidance, parents and children are navigating AI tools with limited understanding of both the risks and opportunities these technologies present.

This gap leaves children vulnerable to potential harms while simultaneously preventing families from leveraging AI's benefits—from reducing parental mental load and personalizing learning to supporting career exploration and developing future-ready skills.

The need for accessible, family-centered AI education has never been more urgent.

Who We Are

We're two Alexandria moms who spent decades in education and technology—Dr. Elizabeth Hoover in district leadership, Julie Kelleher in edtech—both starting our careers in the classroom.
Over the past three years, we've been deeply immersed in AI across our professional and personal lives. We've lived the questions parents are asking. We've navigated what our own kids are encountering. And we realized families in our community need more than warnings—they need practical guidance and confidence.
We founded this partnership to make AI literacy accessible for Alexandria families. We combine systems-level expertise with real-world implementation experience, and we bring something equally important: we're figuring this out alongside the families we serve.
Our mission is simple: empower parents, students, and educators to navigate AI with clarity and confidence—not fear.

Julie Kelleher

Julie Kelleher is the founder of LIKEAMOTHER.AI and Kelleher Consulting Group, pioneering the "Parent-in-the-Loop" approach to AI literacy that positions parents as informed guides rather than gatekeepers in their children's AI experiences.
Julie Kelleher lives and works at the intersection of education, technology, and parenting. She is the founder and leader of two complementary businesses: LIKEAMOTHER.AI and Kelleher Consulting Group.
At LIKEAMOTHER.AI, Julie empowers parents, especially those of elementary and middle schoolers, to become essential guides in how their families experience AI. Through training, coaching, and community, her Parent-in-the-Loop™ approach positions families as informed decision-makers in the AI education ecosystem.
At Kelleher Consulting Group, Julie partners with EdTech companies and nonprofits on data-driven go-to-market strategy and AI-powered execution. As a fractional leader and advisor, she blends 18 years of EdTech leadership with proven best practices to help organizations increase the reach and impact of educational technology, programs, and services.
Julie's commitment to education is grounded in her experiences as both a mother and classroom teacher.
Julie holds degrees from Harvard Graduate School of Education and Georgia Tech and lives in Alexandria, Virginia.

Why This Partnership Approach Works

By combining educational systems expertise with family-centered AI literacy, we address the full ecosystem where children learn and grow. We don't just teach about AI—we build community capacity for ongoing learning and adaptation as AI continues to evolve.
Our approach recognizes that effective AI literacy isn't one-size-fits-all. We work with you to understand your community's unique context, concerns, and goals, then design programming that creates lasting impact.
